Titan Implosion - Final Destination to the Titanic

On Sunday, June 18, 2023, a tragedy unfolded in the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean, 3,800 meters below the surface. Five men aboard a small submersible, the Titan, were heading toward the wreck of the Titanic. Among them was Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a 77-year-old Frenchman known worldwide for his numerous expeditions to the Titanic since 1987. Sadly, they would never see the surface again. For 96 hours, the whole world held its breath. The media followed the search hour by hour, as time was running out: soon, there would be no more oxygen on board the Titan. Four days after departure, the news broke: debris from the submersible had been found at the bottom of the ocean. All the occupants were dead, including the three tourists who had not hesitated to spend 230,000 euros each to participate in this expedition.

Through the hour-by-hour account of this tragic voyage, we will decipher the fate of this submersible, strangely similar to that of the Titanic ocean liner. We will go back a few months to revisit the design of the craft that its creator, Stockton Rush, intended to be revolutionary. Thanks to the testimonies of experts, relatives of the victims, and former passengers, we will attempt to understand what really happened aboard the Titan and how this underwater adventure turned into tragedy.
